BIBLE EXPLORERS GOSPELS LESSON 19

This is lesson 19 in our journey through the Gospels chronologically. This will likely take 3 years to complete, teaching weekly through the school year. The material is geared for elementary age kids. Each lesson will have a list of Scripture references, materials, introduction, object lessons, and hands on activities. Most lessons can be completed in 1- 1.5 hours. A few may need more than one class time. New lessons will be posted weekly. The posts will not have pictures because I will not be posting pictures of other people’s children. At the end of each school year, a printed version of the curriculum will be made available for purchase. This will include an appendix with printouts, game pieces, and other classroom helps.

Lesson 19: Jesus Heals the Nobleman’s Son

John 4:46-54

Materials:

Bibles (enough for the whole class)

Whiteboard markers

Card making materials

Optional: Bible costumes

Introduction:

Jesus returns back to Cana where He had turned the water into wine. News had spread around Galilee at this point and had made it as far as Capernaum. It is not clear in Scripture if the nobleman is Jewish or Roman. This is a short lesson so the extra time can be used for reviewing Bible basics. At the end of class, the kids can make cards for someone in your congregation who is sick.

Activities

Object Lesson 1: Bible Basics

Purpose- to review how to find verses in the Bible

1.      Pass out Bibles to all the kids.

2.     Walk through how it is structured, how to use the table of contents, etc.

3.     Have the kids find today’s passage and take turns reading.

4.    Note the words in red, italics, capitals, why there are chapters and verses, etc.

5.     Discuss the reading as you go.

6.     Show where Cana and Capernaum are on a map.

Hands on Activity 1: Cards

Purpose- to encourage and pray for the sick

1.      Provide materials for card making.

2.     Pray for the individuals as the cards are being made.
