BIBLE EXPLORERS GOSPELS LESSON 22

This is lesson 22 in our journey through the Gospels chronologically. This will likely take 3 years to complete, teaching weekly through the school year. The material is geared for elementary age kids. Each lesson will have a list of Scripture references, materials, introduction, object lessons, and hands on activities. Most lessons can be completed in 1- 1.5 hours. A few may need more than one class time. New lessons will be posted weekly. The posts will not have pictures because I will not be posting pictures of other people’s children. At the end of each school year, a printed version of the curriculum will be made available for purchase. This will include an appendix with printouts, game pieces, and other classroom helps.

Activities

Hands on Activity 1: Character Sketch

Purpose- to gauge where the children are in their understanding of angels

1.      Have the kids draw what they think angels look like.

2.     When they are done ask the kids to tell you facts about angels and write them on the board. (even if they are wrong)

3.     Write the facts as labels and descriptions.

4.    Instruct the kids not to copy your descriptions until the end of class.

Hands on Activity 2: Scripture hunt

Purpose- to see what the Bible says about angels and how it compares to their previous thoughts.

1.      Prepare index cards with scriptures pertaining to: the appearance, purpose, abilities, limitations, creation of, and names of angels (see appendix for printable version of cards)

2.     Hide the cards for the kids to find.

3.     Take turns reading the cards and adjusting the information on the board to line up with scripture. Keep it simple so the kids can copy it later.

Hands on Activity 3.  Angelic Facts

To make page of true facts to keep for comparison to the next lesson and solidify the information.

1.      Have the kids draw what they think angels look like now that they have read the verses.

2.     Have the kids copy the information from the board onto new sheet of paper, writing the facts as labels and descriptions.

3.     Discuss the facts about angels and what our interactions should be. Recognizing their place and purpose (respect, not worship, listen to message, hospitality etc.)
